From the Gossip Pages
From time to time, there are mentions of Crestview and its acitivties that make for social media chatter. In this section, we will address items that we might see in those various media outlets.
Recently, there was a thread about water pressure in a customer's home. The concern was that the pressure being delivered to the home was at or around 100 psi. One reader commented that the water provider (Crestview) can turn the pressure down to help reduce the pressure in a home. Another reader stated that installing a PRV (Pressure Reducing Valve) in the home can help to lower the pressure to minimize the risk of having too much pressure on plumbing fixtures.
Here's the fun part; Public water system pressures are controlled by two things;
1. Pumping pressure into the system from a treatment facility and
2. Gravity!
Explanations
1. Every day or two, Crestview will pump water from our Denver Water source north to fill our water storage tanks. When the pumping occurs, the system pressure can increase by 3 to 5 psi until pumping stops when the tanks are full at which time, the pressure will return to its normal state.
2. Gravity! Gravity plays the largest part in all water systems. Water system pressures are based on how the land lays. For example, if you stack something, anything, the more you stack it the heavier it becomes at the bottom of the stack and lighter at the top of the stack. Water works the same way. Crestview is basically a valley so, if your home is near the top of the valley your water pressure will be less than if your home is near the bottom of the valley. If you live near 80th & Zuni, (the top of the valley), your pressure will be around 50 psi (pounds per square inch), 76th & Zuni, 80 psi, 72nd & Zuni, 93 psi and 68th & Zuni, 102 psi. The farther downhill, the higher the stack or pressure.
Because Crestview sits in this valley, we are unable to adjust the pressures in our system. If we lower the water levels in our tanks, the system pressure is lowered accordingly. If we lower the the water level too much, the customers near 80th & Zuni will not have enough pressure to ensure flow within their home. Not good!
With all this said, we encourage anyone that has pressure above 70 psi to install or have installed a PRV to lower the pressure in your home. Your appliances with thank you.
